JILLIAN SOBRINO

is a Filipino-American film director and video editor based in New York City. Her work explores themes of identity and girlhood, rooted in storytelling that is intimate, nostalgic, and quietly revolutionary.

She holds an MPS in Film Directing from the School of Visual Arts (NYC) and a BA in Digital Filmmaking from Shepherd University (WV). Her thesis short film, Killing Myself (2023), premiered at an Academy-qualifying festival and is now streaming globally. She is currently in pre-production on This Land Is Cursed, a coming-of-age drama set in West Virginia.

In addition to her directing career, Jillian is a professional video editor and content creator, leading productions for brands while dedicating her off hours to independent films and music videos that blend intimacy with bold, experimental visuals.

Her contributions to the filmmaking community extend beyond her own projects: she has served as a judge for the 2025 SVA Apple Box Film Festival and is a frequent guest speaker in SVA’s Master’s in Directing program, mentoring the next generation of filmmakers.

With a distinct visual style and character-driven storytelling, Jillian’s films resonate with audiences who crave honest, emotionally grounded cinema.
